Throughout American history, aspiring citizens have repeatedly tried to redefine rape. This talk highlights the mixed results of efforts by early women’s rights and racial justice advocates to undermine the sexual and political entitlements of white men.  It also shows how the redefinition of rape targeted certain immigrant and gay men as sexual threats to children.
