Anne (Annie) Berke earned both a B.A. in English and Creative Writing and an M.A. in Film Studies at Columbia University, her Master’s thesis entitled “‘Never Let the Camera Catch Me Acting’: Lillian Gish as Actor, Star, and Theorist.” Since beginning her doctorate program, Annie has presented conference talks on subjects as varied as Tilda Swinton, Bugs Bunny, and Woody Allen’s Orgasmatron. Her current research interests include the Hollywood star system, photography theory, and the concept of the “studio” as it applies to the film, television, and post-war culture industries. Annie is also a playwright, with her most recent one-act, “Double-Cross,” performed at New York’s Looking Glass Theater in 2011.
