Description

On October 21, the New York Times broke the news that the Trump Administration is planning “a governmentwide effort to roll back recognition and protections of transgender people under federal civil rights law.” The Trump administration’s memo would require that “sex” be defined as a binary and unchangeable characteristic, determined by genitalia at birth. If implemented, these regulations would directly target and harm transgender and intersex people.

Join us for a panel discussion about how these proposed regulations fit into the current legal landscape; how they would affect trans and intersex people on the ground if enacted; and how we can mobilize in response to protect trans and intersex civil rights. The panel will include Ryan Thoreson ‘14, a researcher at Human Rights Watch’s LGBT Rights Program and Cover-Lowenstein Fellow in International Human Rights at Yale Law School, and Alejandra Caraballo, a staff attorney at the New York Legal Assistance Group’s LGBTQ Law Project.

Open to the public. Lunch will be served.
