Graduate Student Funding Opportunities

Ambereen Toubassy ‘94 WGSS Graduate Student Research Grant Up to seven graduate students per year will receive up to $700 each towards travel to an academic conference related to their work in the Certificate or Combined PhD Program.

The Isa and Avi Mehta Graduate Student Research Grant for up to $700 in support for research related to a graduate student’s work in the Certificate or Combined PhD Program, including dissertation research.

Teaching Fellow Positions

Note that strong preference is given to students fulfilling teaching requirements for the PhD program in WGSS and WGSS Graduate Certificate.


Undergraduate Majors Awards and Fellowships

The Shana Alexander Research Fellowship in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies provides a limited number of fellowships to support original undergraduate research projects in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies.

The Elga Wasserman Award is given to a senior who has shown extraordinary commitment to the advancement of social justice and gender equality at Yale College.

The Steere Prize in Women’s Studies Award is awarded annually for the senior essay which best exemplifies advance in scholarship gained by focusing on women or gender roles and/or by employing feminist theory.

Lily Rosen Prize in Women’s Health is awarded annually to an undergraduate in Yale College for the best essay that contributes to knowledge about women’s health.

GALA Senior Essay Prize is awarded to a senior essay or senior project, submitted to any department or program in Yale College, addressing a topic relevant to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender studies.

Camila María Concepción ‘14 Yale GALA Prize.  The LGBT Alumni Association recognizes a graduating Yale College senior for significant contributions during their undergraduate career to trans, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming communities on campus, in New Haven and beyond. The prize honors the memory of writer and activist Camila María Concepción ’14 and her work to increase trans visibility and representation.
