I am interested in researching gender, power, and space. Currently, I am exploring gender inequality in intimate life through a project on female sexual response as a site of self-optimization and market intervention. My interest in spatial organization includes considering urban design – what is a woman’s “right to the city”? How is this affected by factors including perceptions of safety, pervasiveness of surveillance, and options for mobility? As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, I studied international development with a focus on South Asia. After college, I worked in communications at the Wikimedia Foundation (the non-profit that operates Wikipedia), where I worked on campaigns related to women’s history and representation on Wikipedia. I have written fiction and poetry for most of my life, and consider contemporary literature both a source of joy and an integral form of sociological data.
