Event description:

This paper centers on the life of Adela Vázquez, a Cuban transgender activist living in San Francisco. Vazquez’s life story of growing up in Cuba, forming part of the Mariel boat lift, and working as a sex worker in San Francisco has been the subject of numerous oral history and documentation projects conducted by community activists and academics. These attempts at biographical representation will be juxtaposed with her own archival practices within social media platforms in order to investigate how different forms of visual, textual, and digital documentation transform our affective encounters with the sexual lives of Latina subjects.
