“When Theory Becomes Oppressive: Palestine and the Queer Question Revisited”

In January 2012 Palestine was “discovered” and made into a hot commodity of every international “queer solidarity conference.” This sudden “discovery” of Palestine by the queer international (to differentiate from the gay international) was of course an important development, but it also came with a heavy price. In her talk, Professor Hochberg will focus on the impact of this international queer solidarity with Palestine, which, for better or worse, often takes the form of “North American queers saving Palestinian queers from themselves.”
