Fanmei Xia is a doctoral candidate in the joint-degree PhD program in Sociology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her research employs multi-methods approaches to examine topics such as reproduction and migration. Her dissertation investigates the social processes of being childfree. Fanmei’s work intersects policy, demography, and social inequality, offering nuanced insights into how individuals navigate structural constraints. She is a Graduate Policy Fellow at the Institute for Social and Policy Studies and the Open and Reproducible Research (ORR) Fellow at the Data-Intensive Social Science Center at Yale. Fanmei serves as the Graduate Student Assembly representative and Chair of the International Student Committee. Prior to Yale, she earned her B.A.s in Psychology and Philosophy from Boston College and a M.P.P from the University of Chicago.
